Quebec - Montreal Botanical Garden
Montreal hosted the Summer Olympic Games of 1976 (famous for
14-year old Nadia Comeneci’s perfect 10s in gymnastics; Bruce Jenner’s gold in
the decathlon; a US boxing team that included Sugar Ray Leonard, Leon Spinks, and
Michael Spinks; and an East German team that outperformed thanks to what was
later revealed to be a systematic doping scheme). The Olympic Stadium is still
in use and much of the surrounding Olympic Park has been repurposed into nature
museums and event venues. Two of these – the Biodome and Insectarium – are
currently undergoing renovations, but we were able to enjoy the huge Botanical Garden
which includes many themed gardens including an impressive Chinese Garden and some
creative natural shelters.
