Alaska - Seward
Our cruise ended in Seward, but we weren’t yet done with
Alaska. We had two days in Seward. Day one was spent at the Alaska SeaLife
Center which is both a public aquarium and a sea mammal rehabilitation facility.
They also had a big sea bird habitat that included two species of the very
charismatic puffins. For some reason I didn’t take any pictures there, but I
took plenty the following day on our day cruise in the Kenai Fjords. We were
originally going to do this the first day but rain and rough seas made us think
better of it. This proved to be a wise choice as by all reports the wildlife
viewing was better and the seas calmer. We didn’t need it but the first mate’s
advice for those feeling sea sickness: grab the rail, aim downwind, shoot
for distance.

Our Seward hotel featured a lobby full of taxidermy animals. Kind of creepy and cozy at the same time. (photo by Deborah)
The Alaska SeaLife Center is largely geared toward kids. Deborah thought it would be amusing to have me pretend to pilot the mini tug boat. Little did she know I really was piloting it.

Sea Otter. He looks comfortable.
Not sure if this is a summer home or a rental, but you have to admire the setting.
