New Zealand - Milford Sound Cruise
Milford Sound is technically a fjord (sometimes spelled fiord here) – a narrow, steep-sided, glacier-formed
valley filled with seawater. Twenty five years ago when I did a cruise on
Milford Sound with my friend Ray it was raining. That is pretty much normal as
it is known as the wettest inhabited place in New Zealand. But Deborah and I had
glorious sunshine for our 2-hour cruise. Much looked familiar – the dark
waters, the near-vertical cliff sides (which somehow still manage to support
abundant plant life), the waterfalls, the same seals perched on the same rock
(well, probably not the same seals). All
familiarly beautiful.

Our cruise boat. The company we went with was Mitre Peak Cruises and they were excellent.
We're wearing jackets not because it is cold but because we were on the bow and catching a bit of spray. Worth it for the view.
