BALI-Hotels & Spa’s
Sorry for the disruption in the sequence of our blog, I am just not on Blake’s schedule for posting. Most likely I am in the spa right now! Ummmm... most of the time I am it seems!
We started our stay in Sanur Bali -Blake blogged about it earlier. Here are a few pictures of the airbnb we stayed at for $41 per night. We highly recommend this place. The owner was wonderful, it was a great location and the price was right.
Notice the sprayer that looks like it belongs at your kitchen sink. See it? We had one in our kitchen in the 1970's, most of us did. And no it's not for cleaning your vegetables. It is there so you can rinse off your butt before wiping. A very unusual experience that we leaned to enjoy. No kidding!
No toilet paper goes in the toilet in Bali and we don't want a stinky trash can.
We stayed in a really sweet hotel in Ubud Bali that was recommended to us by our friends Bob and Elaine. It was a hotel that slowly grew from its small beginnings into a much larger hotel. Because it grew over time, it maintains a very quaint, intimate feel. It was like living in a giant garden with pools, wandering paths, rice fields and cute structures as accommodations. We stayed in three different rooms during our stay because we kept extending our stay. Our plan was 10 days, we stayed 17. We enjoyed trying out different rooms. Our biggest challenge to date is getting the perfect bed for our needs. They are not bad, just not great. So we take ibuprofen when needed. And I have lots of massages which I don't mind at all. Oh darn!
Our room cost us $41 per night. And the rooms were lovely.

Our second room was called the wooden room. It was a bedroom, bathroom room house on stilts.
Our third room was in the newest buildings
The hotel also had an off site spa and they even drove you to it and picked you up for free. I spent 13 hours at that spa - not all at once mind you. The end cost was $10 per hour. I tried most of what they offered, some more than once. It was my idea of heaven.

One evening just to mix it up a bit I went to a different spa. The girl suggested a package that was $18. It consisted of a body massage, mini facial and hair treatment with head massage. 1.5 hours. I said ok. OMG! the contrast from the hotel spa was like night and day, heaven and hell. This one being hell! Lol.
It began on a hard table in a room with 12 other tables, each surrounded by a curtain. I have been to spas like this so I was not concerned at first. Then I realized I could hear all the traffic in town since we were on the main drag and the windows were open! It was hot, no fan, no air conditioning. Additionally the girls who were not busy were hanging out on the stairs enjoying a very vocal conversation, just a few feet away from the treatment area where I was . Most people might have left, but since I spent my entire career working and owning a salon I stayed. I knew this girl needed to make a living and I am a softie to those in my trade. Her massage was not bad, just not good and only on one side of the body. I thought what?! The facial was brief, vigorous and scratchy. Not exactly good for a beautiful complexion. The icing on the cake was the hair treatment. First a shampoo at a not so clean shampoo area. Yikes! Then onto the salon chair( which was a chair) where she literally plopped a gloppy substance out a jar onto my head then proceeded to give me the head massage. She place her hand palm down on the top of my head and her fingers down the sides like a vice grip. The she extracted her hand fast as she could and it felt like the vice grip rapidly slipped off. This went on for 20 minutes. I tried to pretend I was enjoying it by smiling a lot; inside I was grimacing! Then she washed it off. I was done, thankfully. I paid the agreed $18 and then I gave her a $5 tip. LOL. She worked hard so I felt obliged. Blake laughed his head off when I told him about it. Needless to say I forgot to take pictures there.
